Before English 110, I did not have an experienced background with peer review. I had only done it a couple times before taking this english class. In high school, we never really had the time to peer review every paper that we had written. The only time I really remember peer reviewing is from senior year. Before that, I don’t think I had ever done it before. Since taking this class, I believe that my peer reviewing skills have gotten much better. I now know the right and wrong things to do when peer reviewing. If take a look at the first paper I peer reviewed, you can clearly tell I did not know what I was doing. I was unsure what I was supposed to be fixing, locally and globally. I did not have many useful comments for the writer to fix to make the paper better. I commented a lot about her introduction of quotes, which ended up not even being needed. I did try to do a few global revisions though. I asked her if she could explain a little bit more on the job position that was added to her work. The second time I peer reviewed someone’s paper, I did much better. I gave them a lot more input than the first time. I commented on local revisions, such as sentence errors. Globally, I felt like I did much better this time around. I asked her if she could elaborate on a few things and if she was able to add the concept of “cosmopolitanism” into the paper as well. I do feel like I have a lot more to improve on my peer reviewing. I am still sometimes a little unsure as to what needs to be fixed and what doesn’t. However, I do believe that my peer reviewing skills have gotten much better and I have grown as a writer since the beginning of this semester
