Writing in Other Courses

“The video demonstrated the concept I chose because it goes through each month of the babies first year. It showed the age ranges that babies were supposed to be hitting certain milestones such as sitting up, or walking. This video is helpful for my concept of gross motor skills in babies because a lot of new parents do not know a whole lot about babies, obviously. So, by watching this video, they are able to see the approximate ages that their babies should be hitting these huge milestone. It is very important that they know this because if the baby is delayed in hitting certain milestones, they might need some form of intervention, or have to be taken to the doctors because they might have something wrong with them. More importantly, gross motor skills enable children to be able to master fine motor skills. If children are not able to have the proper upper body and neck strength, they will not be able to sit up correctly. Which in turn, makes it very hard for them to be able to master fine motor skills, such as writing.”

This is a paragraph from a short writing assignment that I did in my Lifespan Development class this semester. The assignment was to find a video that we hadn’t seen in class yet, and write about the video, define the concept and then relate how this concept  will apply to our career in the future. I chose the concept that we talked about in class called, Gross Motor Development in babies. Writing this helped me to learn the material because it required me to research the topic even more than we already had discussed in class. I was also able to go into depth about the concept and really see why it was important for parents and everyone else to know about gross motor development.
