Art in Nursing

Art in nursing is not very well-known to a lot of people. Not many people see a nurse and think of art and vice versa. Art in Nursing has been proven to enhance the observational skills in nurses. Looking at a piece of art and observing it, can help a nurse to better be able to just observe a patient and be able to tell if something is wrong with them or not. This picture represents art in nursing because it is a similar picture to Rosie the Riveter, which is a picture of a woman that was used in World War II to represent the women that were replacing the men’s jobs during the war. The picture was used to show that women are just as strong and equal as men, and are able to do the same work as them. I think this picture is trying to show people that nurses are strong and are such an important aspect of the healthcare field. They deal with the patients and their families more than anyone else, for the most part and know more about the patients and their preferences than even the doctors do.

Lexi, I love this picture and can see how it relates to art in nursing. I can so see how that nurse looks like Rosie the Riveter, strong and a fighter! Nurses really are proving their strength and fight during this fight against covid. I like how our reasons to what we chose art in nursing are were different. I love how yours is how nurses use their observational skills and can tell when something is wrong with a patient especially since they are with the patients the most. Mine was how nursing is just like technology and it’s constantly evolving and nurses have to understand and adapt to the changing of technology to be the best for their patients. Nurses sometimes catch things that machines can’t and that is with their observational skills.

Lexi, thanks for sharing this picture, but please go back and give the artist credit. I agree with your interpretation of the picture; nurses do so much more than most people know, and certainly the pandemic has opened the eyes of many. Nice work!

Lexi, I completely agree with you that it is hard for some people to see nursing as more than a science. I like how you touched on the importance of observation in nursing since it is a good skill that saves the lives of patients every day. Your choice in art is similar to mine in that we both identified important nursing characteristics from within the art. Yours symbolizes strength and equality, and mine presented the trait of empathy also needed in nursing. I think both of these qualities and both of our art pieces complement each other well.
