  1. The nurses throughout the movie stated that nurses need to be caring, compassionate and open-minded. You never know what kind of patient’s you are going to come across and need to be ready for anything. In the movie, there was a Native American population that was discussed. I personally have never cared for a patient within this culture. I think that there were barriers to the care that they could receive. They talked about in the movie that people in different cultures may not believe in Western Medicine. They discussed that Native Americans use their prayers as a form of healing injuries and illnesses. This is what they have known to be true and what works for them. Cultural Humility plays a big role for the nurse when they are learning new cultures and the aspects of them. The nurses caring for these patients need to make sure that they are respecting the patient’s values, and if they do not want to receive treatment and heal their own way, they need to understand that. I think that I will always want to learn more about caring for diverse cultures and populations. We do not see many different cultures in the Maine area or even where I am from in Massachusetts. I think that it is so important to be educated about different cultures so you are able to respect them and care for them properly.
  2. After having the guest speakers come to our class and talk about future jobs, I now have a better understanding of how to prepare for interviews and what my future employers are going to be looking for from us new graduates. I think that I will definitely do research on the facilities that I am applying to in order to gain an understanding of the type of employees that they are looking for. In order to provide the interviewer with my strengths, I will go into depth with the strengths that I have. I think that it is important to do this so they know how much of an asset that you will be to their team. On the other hand, I think that it is important to also show them your weaknesses. Although, I would not use negative words when describing them. I would also state to the interviewer how I plan to turn my weaknesses into strengths because it is important to keep the interview positive.
