I chose the person that I am interviewing for this assignment for many reasons, but mostly because I have known her for almost my whole life. She is a very close family friend of ours and I look up to her a lot. She has not always been a nurse, it is actually her second career and she has only been one for about 5 years. She has lots of experience within the healthcare field. She was a pharmacy technician for years before she went back to school to become a nurse. The qualities that I noticed she had that were similar to a leader were that she is determined and extremely loyal. I have a lot of respect for people that go back to school for a second career, all while balancing a family life and a job to support the family. There is a lot of work that is involved in becoming a nurse, and I cannot even imagine how much work and time she had to put in while she was in nursing school. I think that the courage and determination that it took for her to complete this is amazing and part of being a good leader.
The job that she has currently is a formal leadership position. She currently works at a school for children that have learning and behavioral disabilities as a school nurse. I am interested to learn more about what she does on a daily basis with these kids and how she collaborates with the teachers and other members of the school in order to provide the best care for the kids. I am also interested in learning more about what she plans to do in the future, job-wise, and if she plans on staying at the bedside for the rest of her career.
Excellent Lexi. The role of the school based nurse is very different from the inpatient hospital role. It will be great for you to get a sense of what she does on a daily basis.
