- I intend to be licensed by examination in the state of New Hampshire. This state is a Nurse Licensure Compact state.
- The application for this state requires you to first register for an exam on the Pearson Vue website where you can sign up for an NCLEX testing date. This state does also require you to have a copy of your driver’s license as well as official transcripts that need to be sent in. It did not state if there needs to be a sign off from the director of the program, so I am unsure. The application can be completed online on the NH government website.
- Yes, in New Hampshire they do require you to have a criminal background check. This is done by filling out paperwork for the department of safety. There is also fingerprinting that needs to be completed as well.
- The State website indicates that nurses are required to report any signs of abuse or neglect that is suspected of that patient. There is also a statement saying that there will be no disciplinary measures taken on the nurse even if the report and investigation does not find any signs of abuse.
- I know that there are possibilities of being under investigation as a nurse for many things. Most of them are mistakes as well, not on purpose. I plan to find some liability insurance for myself because I do not want to have to rely on the hospital because in most cases, they will not have my back and not protect my job and license.
What about provisions for recovery for nurses who may be experiencing substance use disorder? I do believe the NH BON has a link to their recovery program. Liability (or malpractice) insurance will only cover you in the event of an accusation, it will not protect you from legal issues. How would you prevent these issues from arising in the first place?
